Calm down Trump supporters, the rumor that the Democratic Party is holding an emergency meeting to replace Hillary Clinton is just that…. a rumor. While it’s entirely possible the Democratic Party may call a meeting in the future to discuss replacing Hillary Clinton in the event she steps down as party nominee, no such meeting has been called.
No matter what her “health” situation may be, the Democratic Party cannot replace Clinton. The DNC’s bylaws allow the committee to fill “vacancies in the nominations for the office of President and Vice President,” according to article 3 section 1 (c). That means if Clinton removes herself from the race, the party leadership can select a replacement – but only if she chooses to do so. Further, according to its bylaws, the DNC can’t meet or vote on an item without considering public engagement. All meetings must be open to the public and no votes can be taken by secret ballot, according to article 9, section 12.
With that being said, nobody is predicting that Hillary Clinton will step down as party nominee. She will see her way through to the end and continue her battle with Donald Trump. Of course, the Bernie Sanders supporters are still hopeful she will step down so he can take her place, but don’t hold your breath. She’s been waiting for this for a very long time.
