There is more sad news today, as yet another ‘Internet challenge’ has taken the life of a teenager. It seems like a simple, safe challenge that has people doing different variations of the running man to an old 90s hit song called “My Boo.” But today, it turned tragic and it was all caught on video.
Friends of 16-year-old Malik Johnson decided to film their friend doing the ‘Running Man Challenge’ with hopes that it would go viral on the Internet. Little did they know, it would be the last time they would capture their friend on video. As Johnson stepped out of the bathroom, wrapped in just a towel, he began to do his dance moves with a “leap through the air” at the end. However, Johnson ended up hitting his head on a bedroom door, killing him instantly.
“I just want people to understand they need to be more careful and think before they do anything,” said Sandra Johnson, the victim’s mother. “I want his death to mean something, I want everyone to know that these challenges are always dangerous. I hope to share my son’s story with the world by releasing the video of his tragedy.”
You can watch Malik in his final moments in the video below. His mother Sandra is hoping you will share this with your friends and family so they can understand the dangers as well.
